My parents just offered to finance a "cool" project car for me to restore as a hobby and either keep or sell. So, Oppo, tell me what I want, what I really, really want.

But what do I want? Old roadster? Classic muscle? Luxobarge? Corner carver?

What do you really want? You want something different. Yet, you still want something that will be relatively easy to work on. S12 Silvia?
(ok that's what I want lol)

Are you looking to keep or sell at the end because if you want to sell resale value dictates everything.

The last one! Then it will be epic at the track and while autocrossing! I recommend a 1UZ swapped 240sx. Like a good parent I will live my dreams through you. Plus it will sound EPIC!

Close, but what he really wants is an early 2nd gen Camaro. All the cool kids have one ;). Seriously though, I think pre-smog American iron is the way to go when you're learning.

1965 Mustang. Coyote 5.0, SVT suspension, 5 speed manual, fiberglass hood and trunk, Sparco Corsa seats. Blue with White stripes, American Racing wheels.
Do it. Do it now.

Does it have to be a restoration? What about a Factory Five?
I think you should get a pre-WWII anything, and when you finish it, #1 join The Oilers, and #2, race it in their annual event, which is honestly amazing to even just watch.

I don't want to be the person to say Miata, but if you want a realistic project car, it's a good choice. By project car, it will be a car you can drive, while doing projects on it. Rather than a car you slave over for a year and then run out of talent/money/patience/whatever. Just a thought. Get something running that you can improve. Rather than a trashed car that needs untold amounts of time and energy. It will be easier overall, and you'll have something good the whole time rather than just when it's done.
